ASUS ROG Phone 3 Full Review

Introduction
ASUS ROG Phone 3

True to its appointment today, July 22, ASUS has put into circulation the third generation of its 'gaming' phones, the one that makes up the now official ASUS ROG Phone 3. A phone that has the challenge of surpassing its two previous brothers, two beasts that, observing the characteristics of the latter, now seem dwarfed.

ASUS has chosen to place the Snapdragon 865+ at the forefront of the operations of its new phone, which automatically gives us features such as 5G or WiFi 6, but also takes memory up to a maximum of 16GB in its most powerful model. A whole paragon of virtues that must compete in an increasingly demanding market, as there are more and more actors at stake representing their roles.

Maximum power at the service of video games

ASUS has decided to apply maximum power to its latest creation, the ROG Phone 3, and for this it remains in the waters of Qualcomm choosing the Snapdragon 865+ as the brain of its new creature. A processor that accompanies with three RAM options and two internal storage to compose up to three phones for sale. We have 8GB / 256GB, 12GB / 512GB and finally 16GB / 512GB.

For the screen, ASUS opts for a 6.59-inch AMOLED with a 19.5: 9 ratio and FullHD + resolution. That means that we have 2,340 x 1,080 pixels in front of our eyes that refresh at a speed of 144Hz and that have a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits, although we will normally take advantage of 650 for the day-to-day with the phone.

The screen comes protected with Gorilla Glass 6, with DCI-P3 support and with a 1,000,000: 1 contrast, in addition to supporting the Always-on mode, like all good OLED panels. ASUS also promises that the response speed of its screen is only 1 millisecond, something that we will have to test well.

As an internal battery, ASUS bets on a battery of considerable capacity. 6,000 mAh that can be charged to a maximum of 30W through any of the USB Type-C ports mounted on the ROG Phone 3, as we have one on the base of the phone and one on the side, ready for both charging and compatible accessories . In addition, the USB C port on the side is compatible with DisplayPort 1.4, being able to send an image through it in 4K resolution if we want to connect it to an external monitor.

ASUS has opted for a triple rear configuration in its cameras that does not depart from the norm. We have 64 megapixels for the main camera with a Sony IMX686 in command, we have 13 megapixels with a 125º super wide-angle lens and we have 5 megapixels with a macro lens. So we have normal photography, macro photography, super wide-angle photography and also software selective blur.

On the front of the phone we come across the fourth and last photographic sensor, one of 24 megapixels for selfies. The phone will be able to record 4K video at 30 frames per second, and will be able to send it as is through the DisplayPort 1.4 port that we mentioned earlier.

To complete the multimedia experience, we must highlight the presence of two stereo front speakers with Dirac HD sound and a dual NXP TFA9874 smart amplifier. Of course, the phone is compatible with Qualcomm aptX Adaptative if we want to use the Bluetooth 5.1 connection adhered to the connectivity specifications of the phone.

By the way, we have dual 5G and also WiFi 6, the aforementioned Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC chip for mobile payments and quick pairings and more. All stuffed into a phone 171 millimeters high, more than 17 centimeters, and 240 grams in weight. Not bad considering that a 'gaming' phone is designed for us to use it a lot.
